Democratic Convention Day 2 - Let’s talk about visuals

I can’t help myself, there is so much cheez, I have to comment on it.

11:41pm - Today’s The Daily show was one of its finest. I will post the video later.

11:36pm - From Hilary’s speech:

It makes a lot of sense that next week John McCain and George Bush will be together in the Twin Cities, because these days they’re awfully hard to tell apart.

The video.

The best line tonight (maybe the best of the convention?).

11:10pm - Hilary Clinton gave an excellent speech. She said the right things, sometimes there is a disconnect between her body language and what she is saying. But she has earnestness, she is not embarrassed to do that. So refreshing in events like this.

10:42pm - whoever edited the Clinton video needs to learn how to use After Effects effectively. Geez!! I will try to find a video of it somewhere.

Post-Keynote speech - WTF? Mark Warner sucks as a speaker. Nixon was more elegant.

Earlier: It has now evident that the networks are now unable to cover live events. The day of relying upon an anchors to cover a live event competently is over. The current crop of anchors cannot relax in front of the camera. So it is awkward for them and awkward for us.

I love Olbermann on his show but he is paired wrongly with Chris Mathews. Both have an incredibly strong personality and it feels like a big cock fight. It is also clear that there is a lack of respect for each other.

CNN is generally all over the place that you can never seem anchored anywhere. Wolf Blitzer has a deer-in-the-headlights look.

Why I love Keith Olbermann

He uses McCain’s own words against him.

Unconventionally Yours

Here is a trailer for two exciting shows that will air on Current TV about the Republican and Democratic party conventions. It features Trace Crutchfield from VBS.TV . Serious reporting in the circus-like atmosphere, sounds like my kind of thing.

Dazed and Confused: McCain’s greatest hits

I think Bush has passed his foot-in-mouth disease onto McCain. Though I was laughing my head off, I was left with a sad aftertaste.

Otherwise known as filmmaker Rielle Hunter

So the news is breaking, John Edwards admits having an affair with his political campaign’s videomaker. I checked out the videos: not bad. (via)

Update: This Edwards quote on CNN has all kinds of implications:

I am not holier than thou. I am not perfect by any means. But there are events in life that you learn from, and which remind you what this is really all about.

Obama counterpunches

This is just perfect counter attacking.

- When answering a question on what people can do everyday to help the environment, Obama suggests taking better care of cars like filling up the tires. Republicans seize on this, mocking his “energy policy”. Obama responds.

- McCain posts an ad claiming to be the original maverick. Obama responds.

- McCain attacks Obama for being celebrity, this time Paris Hilton does the responding.

Oil Addiction

If we’re addicted to oil, our twelve-step program should begin with admitting that we have a problem. As the price of oil creeps higher, finding new energy sources is more important than ever. But the search for alternatives, combined with environmental disruptions, is putting new pressures on other essentials like food. There are some things that are going well in the world. Right now, the economy is not one of them.

Animation and design: Chris Weller. Directed by Max Joseph. Music: Genesis by Justice.

Ticklinks: The party of foot-in-mouth disease

Update: They keep on giving.

Today Show: Meredith interviews McCain

Meredith Vieira is my new hero. McCain was probably expecting another fan from the media.

JibJab - Time for Some Campaignin’

On what has become an electoral tradition, the JibJab crew sets their eyes on Obama & McCain (& Hilary).

Obama: ‘America Already Has One Dr. Phil’

Obama is quite entertaining here. His targets are two of the most respected Republican Senators: John McCain, & Phil Gramm. I constantly disagree with these folks but they aren’t the usual idiotic Republican bobbleheads that talk out of their asses. I personally have never understood why Phil Gramm hasn’t run for the presidency. [oops, he did run] So it was surprising to hear that Phil Gramm call America “a nation of whiners”.

Thankfully, Obama takes both Gramm and McCain to school.

I Met the Walrus

A six-minute animated film in which John Lennon talks about global conflict and the need for peace.

Directed by Josh Raskin. Nominated for 2007 Oscar, but wasn’t available online at the time of our showcase.

I love Carlin, I looovvveddd Carlin. My Wife and I have spent many roadtrips listening to his audio books. I will miss him.

“Why I am voting Republican”

Don’t worry, I haven’t lost my mind, it is just a parody.

MobLogic.TV - Citizen Videoblogism at its best

Entertaining show with a lot of heart. Stating the obvious here: host Lindsay Campbell is hot! Not your bubbly Rocketboom personality but a calm, curious and maybe even a little revolutionary.
