Rafael Sommerhalder - Mr. Wurfel

Brilliantly done! The film is non-linear which one associates with cerebral thinking which compliments the main character beautifully. Style meets substance.
The Red Suitcase

A newcomer unsettles the peace of a small town, bringing music and dance to the isolated community, but also broken hearts and instability. When gone, he leaves behind a young boy and a red suitcase filled with questions.

Still Life

Nathan, a pill-popping, over-caffeinated driver, accidentally hits something with his car. Panic-stricken, he searches for help in a strange and desolate town that offers very little in the form of human kindness. He just entered the Twilight Zone…
A short movie by Jon Knautz, kind of a life size version of M.R. James‘ Haunted Dolls House.

She Who Measures

Are we truly free? Are our desires truly our own or merely imposed products of the society we live in?
“Film critics’ jury of the 32nd International animated film festival in Annecy (Nadezhda Marintchevska, Avedik Olohadjian and Doris Senn) has decided to give the prestigious FIPRESCI Award to Ona koja mjeri (in English: She Who Measures) by Veljko Popovic.”

A Portrait of Envy
The main actress (Riley Rose) looks so familiar! Short of the week has a review.
The film fails to show how much of an obsession Gillian, the main character, has for the guy. Appreciating art is not enough.
Easy Pickins

Home Alone but with a old lady instead of a kid. Sounds cliche, well it is. But thoroughly enjoyable.
Orangutan tries to make it in Hollywood
Seriously, this is Hollywood! I wish they would do one for directors and writers in Hollywood (at least they don’t ask us to take our shirts off).
Anthropology

If you missed it, here’s Victor Solomon’s series of five short movies based on Dan Rhodes‘ Anthropology. Non love stories…

Young O’Reilly throws a hissy fit
Poor, poor O’Reilly! The cruel producers are not hand feeding him. Watch the idiot do his thing.

Mechanical sex is the worst.
“High Maintenance tells a personal story about the power struggle in a relationship through the high-concept conventions of the sci-fi genre.”
A short movie by Phillip Van.

Prevent It ads
A series of Canadian public service announcements in which people have various fatal accidents that could have been prevented. What is really effective about these ads is that the accidents are incredibly short and violent, the kind to get a reaction out of everyone. The first one is especially troubling.
