This Folgers ad features freakishly happy townies cheerfully singing praises of Morning. The spot features happy oompa-esque creatures creeping into bedrooms and bringing the joys of coffee.

The Best of SquiggleBooth

As an online film critic and impartial judge, Ajit has asked me to pick 2006’s Best Of Squigglebooth. Over the past year, we have watched Squigglebooth evolve as a place to express doubt, anxiety, and beauty. Its first episode, posted in May of this year, was an expression of love and a dedication to memories that fill the lonely void of time spent apart. Since then, Squigglebooth has become a collaborative effort to challenge the mind and the heart through visual expression. With 27 squiggles this year, each unique in its message and presentation, it was hard to choose “the Best” but here are my top picks.

Blurring Fat
I’ve always believed that you could see some ones passion and insecurities by looking them straight in the eye. This blurred video takes that concept and illuminates it by adding a steamy glaze that covers the bodies and their reflections in the mirror. It is a literal discussion, not unlike one that you may have had with a spouse, about the concept of beauty and how one’s comfort in life can affect the way that they maintain their body. Not to mention, after going home, eating tons of food, and spending time with the family, I feel like this short is a reflection of my current post holiday routine.

Tuning Out Roadkill
Not for the weak of the stomach, I was a little afraid to watch a piece that highlights the tragic loss of fuzzy animals on the side of the road. Once I was able to get past the images and look deeper into the meaning, Tuning Out Roadkill proved to be a chilling monologue about the cold, harsh reality of death. Directed, edited and scored by Squiggles founder Ajit Anthony Prem, this short feels especially pertinent, as the war in Iraq appears to have reached another turning point.

Extreme Skipping
I think the concept of passion and sports is one that has been up to debate for ages. Is dancing a sport, horse riding or jumping rope? It depends on who you ask. Some one who is passionate about their past time, trains to become athletically elite, and always demonstrates good sportsmanship deserves to claim their sport, no matter how ridiculous it may be. This short by Marc Miller is a parody on the challenges of many athletes to prove themselves as just that.

Bush Girls Gone Wild

After Barbra’s purse was stolen last week, the twins 25th Birthday celebration is turning into a cluster of should-they-stay-or-should they go headlines.

With reports of lax security and tabloid tales of nude hotel romps, splashy photos of their appearance Sunday at a big soccer match and breathless coverage of their dinner out when a fire engulfed a nearby building have filled but American and Argentinian headlines. After it was reported that the two were asked to leave the country for security reason, it has recently become rather clear that these Bush girls have Gone Wild. The creator of this user-gen mash up claims to show “the real reason the Bush twins were asked to leave Argentina”

A sneak peak at the new half-hour comedy series from the creator of MTV’s Celebrity Deathmatch. This teaser is a paparazzi-posing portrayal of Ashton and Demi’s first date.

The E! Entertainment Television series premieres in January but strategic clips are available on broadband channel The Vine @ E! Online and select media sharing sites.

The Darkside

This commercial for a Star Wars movie marathon on Cinemax takes an already overplayed Coldplay song and meshes it together with some sensitive clips from the sci-fi epic that needs no introduction.

Hoping that this weak mash up was made by some crazed YouTube fan, who just wanted to combine his two favorite things in the world, I am appalled and offended that a pay channel thinks that this is a positive advertisement for the film.

Windy Miller Oats

Willy, the claymation character from the British TV series Camberwick Green, has viewers “choking on their breakfasts,” in the TV commercial for Oatso Simple porridge.

I had to watch this one a few times to realize that the farce revolves entirely around a crazy naked uncle. Much like the opening to the second Austin Powers movie, the creators of this “natural” oatmeal ad had to find creative ways to cover his private parts.

Wow, talk about pressure. There’s no eraser or grid to work with. Just a cloud of air and a half formulated idea in the brain.

using a unique method where they combine two highly developed techniques.
Invisible pen strokes in the air recorded with Motion Capture become digital 3D-files.

If I were a hipster and had some boring pad some urban metropolis, I would definately want to rock out my own computer captured furniture. Not to mention, the video of making the piece looks pretty fricken rad.

Bollywood Thriller

And by thriller, I don’t mean a fast-pasted, bad acting film genre. I’m talking the leather clad, hip gyrating, lurking in the shadows of the night, Michael Jackson THRILLER!

This Bollywood version is equally as fantastic. I love how the dance adapts to the cultural dance style of India rather than exactly coping the MJ moves.

The frightening dance moves and the crowd of zombie followers is almost a DEAD match to the video that scared that pants off me as a child. Maybe I could tell then that one day MJ would grow up to be the monster that he portries in his video.
