Alfonso Cuarón’s The Shock Doctrine

In collaboration with Jonas Cuarón and Naomi Klein, Alfonso Cuarón short seems like a continuation of where he left off in Children of Men. Powerful central forces working at enslaving the masses. The film revolves around Naomi Klein’s theory called Shock Doctrine where the government institutes unacceptable policies after traumatic natural or man-made disasters just like a mental patient is given shock treatment to soften them up. The Patriot act springs to mind as one of the policies that Bush’s government was able to get away with.
The short serves as a commercial for Klein’s upcoming book “The Shock Doctrine.” Klein’s earlier book “No Logo” was the one of the key resources that fueled the anti-globalization movement in the 90′s. It will be interesting to see what comes out of this book. I wonder if it will be able to sustain the visual power of this short.
