Watch the Oscar-Nominated Animated shorts online (updated!)
The Oscar nominations were announced today. Babel got nominated in all the right categories, I am dying to see it. The Best Animated Shorts category was also announced. As usual, it consisted of a lot of studio pieces which are good but certainly not the best. Here is a good explanation of why that is the case.
The nominations are:
- Little Match Girl – It had haunted the TickleBooth’s “Recent picks” list for a while. This is what Disney animation should be. Sad, powerful and yet accessible to all age groups. The classic 2D Disney animation is stunning. Update: Disney did some house cleaning at Youtube, I’ll see if I can find it somewhere else. Update 2: Link to video now works.
- Maestro – The clever ending saves what was otherwise a mediocre short.
- No Time For Nuts – We posted this other day. The short stars Ice Age sidekick, Scrat, who discovers a time machine and gets into a bunch of wacky adventures. A lot of fun.
- The Danish Poet – This short is not available online as far as I can tell. It looks the most adult short in the pack. However, a short clip is available on the film’s official website. Update: It is available in full on Google Video. Thanks Joe. The short is beautiful and my favorite of the bunch. I hope it wins. Fits well in the Fate post. Update: You can watch it here now.
- Lifted – The upcoming short will be Pixar’s pre-show entertainment for their upcoming feature film Ratatouille. The short is not available online. Update: Short clip available. Thank you Leo.
I am having a harder time finding the live action shorts but I’ll post what I have found next.
