The Adventures of Goopy and Bagha

This is the dance of the Ghosts sequence from ‘Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne’, Satyajit Ray’s rare 1968 film fable.
I have seen most of Ray’s films and have been a huge fan of his work. He is a great storyteller but more accurately a visual storyteller. And the Goopy and Bagha video only validates that idea even more. He is also wonderfully experimental, from the beautiful montages in each of the Apu triology to the swing shot from Charulata to the minimalist loneliness of Jalsaghar, he always seemed to push the boundaries with the camera.
This video is interesting because I am guessing most of the effects were done in-camera and if that is true, how friggin’ amazing!
