Much like Nick Park’s Creature Comforts, Spike Jonze viral commercials for Miller beer uses animated animals with real person interviews. Jonze’s pieces work on so many different levels: you got the obvious Miller plug, the auditions, the animation, the real voices, the personalities, the actor struggle. And yet all this feels very light.

The subjects are full of personality, some even obnoxious. But there is this sadness underneath all of it. Actors, people struggling for success, for the limelight. Each one believing quite early in their lives that acting is what they wanted to do in life. And yet none have achieved anything significant with this calling. It is actually quite depressing, if you think about it.

The special effects is incredible. Capturing all the wonderful subtlety of the people. You have probably heard that statement before but this is really exceptional.

What is amazing to me is that Spike Jonze has never directed anything that was just ordinary. Everything is constantly challenging something or the other. It is always mildly shocking without being grotesque. The fact that he can keep doing this for this long is in itself an achievement.

Watch them all (the site requires you to type in your birthday, a made up one is fine, to access the movies, once you do, all the videos are available to you. Pretty painless!!)
